まぐろ (ma·gu·ro)
February 3, 2010
Sorry that I’ve been terrible about posting lately. Uni has resumed and of course I’m swamped with work and reading. Here’s a painting that I finished on Monday:

(Closeup)
It’s entitled 鮪, read “Maguro” (the Japanese word for “tuna”). It will be part of a series of at least ten paintings that I complete throughout the semester, related to women’s sensuality. I was kind of underwhelmed by this one, but you know, you win some you lose some. Hopefully my next painting will be better.

Hello, I'm Catherine, a university student studying drawing and painting with aspirations of becoming an animator. You've reached my personal blog and portfolio!

I really love the top piece! That little smudge of pink off to the right really makes it ❤

Georgeous! So, I have to ask, since the picture is the female form, is the title a nod to the Japanese slang meaning of maguro? I’d define it here for everyone, but I don’t want my comment to be inappropriate. Just curious.

I think your painting is quite beautiful! I can’t wait to see more of your work as the semester progress. I know what you mean about feeling underwhelmed–I just finished my first big oil painting of the semester and all I feel is “meh”.

Very nice focus on the soft blending contrast lines & multiple color layers for an icy skin tone :)
