Happy October!

Hair bow

I don’t anticipate getting a chance to post this week, so I’m seizing the moment to do a quick update even if it means double-posting on one day!

So far, my october has been: oil paint experimentation, impromptu horseback-riding lessons, watching Rocko’s Modern Life, re-reading The Hunchback of Notre Dame, a trip to the Fort Worth Modern, pumpkin spice lattes, and red toenails.

Recently, a reader asked about my skin routine. Dear V, unfortunately, my skin is not quite as nice as it appears on camera! After a 6-month stint in LA two years ago, my skin has never recovered from the smog, and I have had under-the-skin bumps that my camera doesn’t seem to capture. However, I wear Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch 85 spf sunscreen every day, and exfoliate with Yes to Carrots! face wash, which helps my skin stay fairly healthy!

And while I’m updating, I’d like to take the opportunity to congratulate Sara, one of my dearest online friends, on her marriage! She looked so beautiful… seeing her photos brought tears to my eyes.

oh my god! I have those same bumps too since moving here! So it’s the smog that does it? Though, recently I stopped my moisturizing routine… so now my skin is a little dry, but the bumps are going away. I now only moisturize once or twice a week, instead of daily.

Yep, I would definitely say that the smog is the cause! I had basically perfect skin even throughout adolescence, right up until I moved to LA. I have tried every home remedy – I even quit moisturizing, wearing makeup, etcetera – and nothing worked! I really need to go see the dermatologist. They aren’t huge or even that noticeable (except on my chin, where they are the biggest) but I hate the texture of my skin and on some days it’s worse than others. @%!*%#! LA!!!

I never associated it with Asians but it does make me feel really young, haha. I went to private school and all of the most wholesome & annoying girls wore their hair with ribbons, so I have a hard time separating it from them. But don’t let stereotypes ruin it for you!! It’s fun and a quick & fashionable way to push your hair out of the way! Plus, I’d rather look typically Asian any day than typically wholesome Catholic school girl! ;)

You’re readin The Hunchback in French or English? :)

You’re simply amazing on the picture, i love your hair, I’m so jealous. Since it’s fall and I love changes and new beginnings I was wondering if it was a good idea to dye my hair but idk, I’m afraid of the result.

Anyway, this is just a comment to say I love your blog, I don’t take the time to comment here as I did before, but I’m quite busy (but I always find time to read you, hey.)

You have the most amazing hair color I’ve ever seen! There’s nothing like making new friends, and this is what I love the most here on blogger. Want to check on my blog ? I think we could follow each other, it would be so much fun, oh and perhaps if you have twitter you can add me too or facebook . What do you think? I would be so glad. Love, Jo

Thank you so much for replying!

I’m very surprised that you were so open about your skin. I mean, you could just go straight on about what you use and not tell anyone about the horrid smog and under-the-skin bumps, but you did and that was really nice of you. (:

Have you tried using just the cleansing milk to wash your face? It was the only thing that made me stop breaking out, or having little oil clogs and under-the-skin bumps (similar to yours, but I don’t experience much smog here, so I’m not sure what caused it).

I hope your skin gets better soon!
