Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet matte lipstick in La Furtive

Ever since the Chanel RTW Fall 2011 show, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of the limited edition makeup that they used in the show. The nude lips and smokey metallic eyes were beautiful and timeless. A couple of weeks ago, the Chanel Rouge Allure Velvet matte lipstick in “La Furtive” (the shade used in the show) finally dropped online, and with the offer of a free shipping with a Chanel gift keepsake box, I couldn’t resist ordering it.

I love the simple and sleek design of the Chanel lipstick; it’s one of those products that make you feel like a princess when you reach for it. La Furtive is a slightly rosy beige lipstick that on me, is almost invisible. I was a bit disappointed as I was hoping for something slightly darker, but I do like that it’s very understated, even demure. The more I wear it, the more I love it.

Rating: 3.5 out of 5

  • Hydrating for a matte shade
  • Lovely color
  • Nice packaging
  • Makes lips plumper
  • Applies smoothly

  • Expensive, at $32 a pop
  • Not available in stores, sold exclusively through
  • Somewhat sheer, requires 2-3 swipes

Description: For an expensive lipstick, I was expecting a bit less transparency, I suppose. Nonetheless, it’s still a very nice shade, and VERY hydrating for a matte lipstick. I also think this is a color that will look good on just about anyone. To replicate the look of the FW2011 show, I’m currently hunting for a slightly darker lipliner (reportedly Chanel’s precision lipliner in “Natural” was used).

I love Chanel’s lipsticks! I actually have a shade that’s pretty close to La Furtive. I really appreciate the fact that it doesn’t dehydrate your lips but it’ll stay on really well.

I’m highly jealous of the beautiful packaging and boxes you get in the US, hardly ever get the same here :( Despite probably paying an arm and a leg more :x Colour looks lovely on you <3

I love anything Chanel, and collect a few key pieces each month, so I really appreciate this article-style post telling us the pros and cons of this lippy. It would have been nicer in a darker shade, I get what you mean, but it looks very natural and pretty on you! I suppose its the perfect lipstick to pop on when you’re going for really dramatic eyes.

    Terrific post!

OMG the color is so pretty!!!! But unfortunately for me, it wouldn’t look so good as I’m Asian and my skin tone is quite different (on yellow skin tones, it’s not easy to find a nudy lip color that wouldn’t make you look like someone sick or much older than you actually are!) I love chanel lipsticks, too; although I don’t have many as it’s not quite cheap! But whenever I wear it or even by just keeping them in my pouch, it makes me feel quite special and more beautiful. I think that’s special magic only chanel can give you :)) The color looks so nice on you :DD
