For as long as I can remember, I have been enthralled with the occult. Ouija boards, tarot cards, spellbooks, ghost stories – anything pagan or witchy. I attribute my fascination with witchcraft to my New Orleans heritage (as you probably know, it is famous for its voodoo) and my Catholic upbringing. Although I don’t consider myself superstitious or religious, there is something intensely alluring (dare I make a bad pun, bewitching?) about the aesthetics of the occult. Below are some wardrobe and accessory selections influenced by it:

One of my favorite people from LA, Hana, bought me this old magazine a few years ago while she was in France. It was so thoughtful, considering Catherine Deneuve (French actress, YSL muse) is one of my top style icons! Here are some scans from it. I love the advertisements – they are so telling of how women during this era were considered to be little more than housewives! So interesting! And I love some of the fashion poses.

L’oreal Ad

Another ad, “Just as she likes it… a sweater washed with SOLILAINE”

A space helmet

What an elegant mother!

“Not a trace of grease!” (You can even wipe your clean white gloves on it!)

And my favorite editorial:

(If I had a husband who posed like this I would have to wonder..)

Grr baby!
